PLAC JANA KEPLERA

The War and its results brought about the destruction of 80% of the old-town dwelling buildings in the centre of Żagań. Of those which remained, the Renaissance houses constructed on the Gothic frameworks and situated at the Old Market Square (No. 7-11) as well as the baroque buildings (No. 27-31) are the most valuable.

A compact settlement of Warszawska Street which was built in the 18th and 19th century on the carcasses of old buildings constitutes a complex of great worth. The houses in Jana Keplera, Słowackiego, Szprotawska, Świerczewskiego, Gimnazjalna streets and at Słowiański Square date back to the same period. Apart from the old town zone built over in the second half of the 19th and 20th century, there are several dozens of houses erected in the Secession style. They are concentrated mainly at Piłsudskiego, Henryka Brodatego, Dworcowa, Nowogrodzka, Śląska, Szprotawska and Żelazna streets.
